Artist Statement:
As an artist, I aim to shine a light on the profound impact of big oil on our planet and society. Through my work, I confront the intricate web of issues surrounding fossil fuels, oil wars, and the devastating consequences of oil pollution. Big oil conglomerates wield immense power, dictating political agendas and perpetuating conflicts in pursuit of profit. Oil wars ravage communities, leaving behind a trail of destruction and despair, all in the name of resource extraction.
Yet, the true cost of our dependence on fossil fuels extends far beyond geopolitical turmoil. It manifests in the form of catastrophic oil spills, sludge like residue left behind on the pavement from cars that shine iridescent colors that poison ecosystems and jeopardizing the health and livelihoods of countless beings. The stark contrast between the opulence of oil magnates and the devastation they leave in their wake is a testament to the inherent injustice of our current energy paradigm.
Through my art, especially in this piece; I challenge viewers to confront the uncomfortable truths about our reliance on oil and to envision a more sustainable and just future. By bearing witness to the consequences of our actions, we can inspire collective action and demand accountability from those who prioritize profit over the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants.
In this very 60’s style “lava-lampy” style design I wanted to really try to capture the iridescence and sloppy-ness that is oil.
Size: 10”x10” print on 14x”16” mulberry paper
